THE TURNING CENTER is a multidisciplinary alternative health care clinic located on Prospect Park in Brooklyn's Prospect Lefferts Gardens neighborhood. Twenty years of immersion in the practice and ongoing study of the oral tradition of Daoist Classical Five Element medicine, through which the knowledge of healing is energetically transmitted from Master Teachers to students, have shown that disease arises when the human microcosm falls out of orbit with the natural turning of the universe. This ancient medicine works simply by reminding each individual's Body/Mind/Spirit that his/her/their ordained destiny of health, happiness and longevity will be restored with a return to living in accordance with nature.
At the Turning Center we treat all sorts of human complaints, from the simple to the dauntingly complex. Each of us has a unique place in the world, and each unique place has its good and not so good parts. The basis of treatment is established at each visit by what you, a glorious one-of-a-kind sentient being rather than a statistical generic human analog, present for examination. Whether your complaint is a recent ankle sprain, digestive or menstrual irregularity, allergies, the common cold, or destabilizing mood imbalance . . . or perhaps a stubborn chronic condition that seems impossibly complicated and intractable, there is really no limit to the healing power of what we call "participatory medicine", by which it is understood that this medicine is never prescribed upon you as a passive recipient, but rather will be work that you and your physician consent to do together to unlock your inner power of self-healing. In our experience, this is nothing less than a daily miracle.
There is however one caveat: the fundamental aim of Chinese and Eastern Medicine is to avoid illness altogether. Its highest goal is to aid in the living of a long, happy life, healthy and strong from cradle to grave. The greatest benefit of this ethos is the prevention of disease by cultivating wellness on your journey from here to there, making clear that health is not always linear and requires the willingness to change, the patience to allow wholeness to return, and the gentle mindfulness to remember to take each step with wisdom and grace.
